Me My Mo Mana. Well, you know what song will be stuck in your head now. By now you know the major ingredient in this week’s TWD selection – Bananas!! Thanks to Amy of Sing for Your Supper we made Banana Cream Pie. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. What’s so great about that – everyone makes them. Well, people, not like this. No jello pudding filling here. Instead a rich, creamy, custard flavored with vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon. When I first made the custard, I didn’t care for the taste much, but after it cooled and was layered with the ‘naners’ something wonderful happened. Flavor — lots and lots of flavor that blended beautifully with the banana without overpowering it. dsc03457

Layers of custard and bananas topped with whipped cream flavored with sour cream. UmmUmmUmm!!!dsc03454

Yes, my crust is a little browner than I would like. I made the whole recipe from Dori’es great book. Divided it in half and actually made one square pie (and now I am trying to figure out if I can get the pie out of that kinda deep square container) and two small tartlette shells (to be used later). Yes, the pi are square (Bad joke, really bad joke…..) But I wanted to make it small. I wasn’t going to make it at all, but who can resist Dorie. It is like walking past a good pastry shop, a quaint tea room, an ugly overcrowded flea market — CANNOT BE DONE!!!!! So small it is…. And I am glad I made it. Tooooo Tasty…..

Try this one. You can find the recipe at Amy’s Blog or, Buy Dorie’s Book. I guarantee it will not gather dust on your bookshelf. And visit the other bakers to see their presentations
