Or so said my dear friend in a recent email. She sent me a recipe that should turn all of you late night snackers, chocolate lovers, on the run eaters on your ear. Yes!! Now you, yes I’m looking at you, can have Chocolate Cake in only 5 minutes. 5 MINUTES, PEOPLE!!! Wait!! Wait!! I, too, thought she was kidding, but today I tried them and Holy Microwave, Batman!!! THESE. ARE. GOOD!!!
-
5 Minute Chocolate Cake
-
4 Tbl flour
4 Tbl sugar (splendra)
2 Tbl cocoa
1 egg
3 Tbl milk
3 Tbl oil (could use Apple sauce here???)
3 Tbl chocolate chips (or white or butterscotch or PB chips) (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract (or maybe almond…)
1 large coffee mug (12 oz) (MicroSafe)
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix
thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. (Mine is 1100 watts and it took only 2 minutes.)
The cake may rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
I mixed up one recipe and made enough to make two 6 oz mugs of cake.
Now, I know you are asking why this is the World’s Most Dangerous Chocolate Cake!!!!!
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!
Sorry, no TWD this week. But maybe THIS chocolate cake will suffice……

I have read this recipe a thousand times and have yet to try it, I guess I’m going to have to!
April 15, 2009 at 1:29 AM
We were just talking about this recipe at work a couple of days ago! No one had tried it however. It was called a two minute cake by the person who sent us the recipe. I’m glad to see you tried it. But you missed out on a great TWD torte this week. Loved it.
April 15, 2009 at 2:43 AM
Oh, now, this is dangerous!! I should have never looked at this recipe, LOL.
Your little cakes look like the perfect answer to a chocolate craving. Yum!
April 15, 2009 at 2:46 AM
Awesome! I’ve made these mug cakes before with a cake mix, egg white powder, a little oil and water. So good! I would (and just might) totally play with this recipe to “lighten” it up. (I like that it’s better for you than a store bought cake mix.–But for the record, 1 box mix, 1/3 cup Deb El (or other) Egg White powder, mixed well, then 1/2 cup of this mix with 1 T. oil, 3 T. water. Mix up in mug. Microwave 1-1 1/2 min. Sprinkle with chips of choice. (This makes about 13 mugs–Great gifts.)
Thanks for this dangerous recipe! 😉

Very nice! I think I could handle 5 min. of my time baking with my crazy busy life these days!
April 15, 2009 at 8:33 PM
Oh this is just too easy and too decadent!!! Sounds so yummy.
April 16, 2009 at 1:42 AM
I heard about that a while ago and tried it immediately; it definitely satifies a chocolate craving. Your version looks nicer than mine did.
April 16, 2009 at 3:54 AM
Nice! You’ve beaten the 15-minute chocolate torte for TWD this week by a full 10 minutes.
April 17, 2009 at 3:30 AM
Wicked, very wicked. A friend sent me this recipe a while ago, & I have been resisting the urge to try it. You seem to break my resolve!!
April 17, 2009 at 4:10 AM
Wow, so cute and so creative. Love it.
April 17, 2009 at 4:10 AM
You are right, seems very dangerous by being so irresistible.
April 17, 2009 at 2:31 PM
You’ve gotta love a cake that is ready in 5 minutes!
April 17, 2009 at 11:24 PM
la, la, la, I’m not listening… and trying not to peek either. I do not need to know about this cake! But I’m glad you loved it. Speaking of chocolate, the choc. cream tart for next week is top notch – I thought I had OD’ed on chocolate (2 chocolate cakes in two days last week) but this tart is one of my favorite Dorie recipes.

I have this recipe and I often wondered if it would work or if it was a hoax – you have proved it works!!
April 18, 2009 at 1:23 AM
ok, 5 minutes is just too tempting!
April 18, 2009 at 3:33 PM
Wow! I’m bookmarking this page, you know, just in case. 😉 It’s scary enough that it only takes five minutes, scarier that I have all of the ingredients on hand!

I’ve made this recipe many times! And I’ve tried chopping up soft caramels in it before baking……sooooo delicious! Also you can bake it in a salad bowl and it makes it easier to frost if you wish to. For those that want to ‘lighten’ up the recipe, a little trick I’ve learned. If you make it with Splenda, add an extra T of flour and just a pinch of baking powder. Otherwise it will sink down in the cup and will have a very dense, unappetizing texture to it. You can also exchange the cocoa for a little extra flour and add mashed banana and a little coconut flavored extract for a banana flavored cake as well!
