THE BLOB!!
That amoebic like creature that tried to devour a small town.
Now consider the following picture…
That is the Blob that tried to eat my Kitchen, aka Fluff-Filled Chocolate Madeleines
Notice the similarities. Brown. Shapeless. Frightening!! Yep, that’s my madeleines. This was an important moment in my life. I discovered just how bad/cheap/worthless my madeleine pan really was. Trust me, there is a good one in my immediate future. THIS. WILL. NOT. HAPPEN. AGAIN.
On the plus side they tasted really good.
I filled, or tried to fill them with PB fluff, but that didn’t work. I dipped some in chocolate ganache. Didn’t help in their appearance. Just looked like dipped blobs!!
I sprinkled them, heavily, with powdered sugar…
and ended up with a snow covered blob. Wait, wasn’t it cold that killed the blob. Well, in this case the ‘snow’ killed the desire to use this pan ever again. It’s in the trash. And all the blobs are gone. They may have looked like something out of an old sci-fi movie, but they tasted really good.
Thanks to Margot of Effort to Deliciousness for teaching me the value of a good madeleine pan.
The recipe will be on Margot’s blob, eh blog. Or in Dorie’s BFMHTY on page 170.
Surely the other TWDers had better luck than me. Go see!!

Margaret, this post is so cute! I’m sorry the madeleines didn’t work out for you. Great sense of humor though!

LOL…am cracking up as when we were baking these together and you were complaining about the shape, etc., I had no idea it was this BAD!!! lol You are right, toss the pans, get new ones and your Madeleine life will improve greatly. Have to give you kudos for trying to make them presentable at their best…and you know what, as long as they tasted good, that’s the real test anyway.

Bwahahahahahahahaha!
I’m always saying it doesn’t matter what they look like as long as they taste good.

That’s hilarious! I like the snow-covered Blob the best 🙂

Hahah great post!
But I think that it’s what’s on the inside that counts 😉

Ha! The Blob..good one! Im glad they tasted good!!

Oh no! I’m for the “as long as it tastes yummy, it doesn’t matter what it looks like.” Definitely try again with a better pan! Love the post. 🙂

This is basically how most everything I make turns out. It may not look the prettiest, but it sure does taste amazing! I love it!

Your post is hilarious Margaret 🙂 Sounds like two good things came out of this week’s recipe: you learned you needed a new madeleine pan while still getting tasty chocolate blobs – win, win!
January 11, 2011 at 9:12 PM
Hee..hee…..I would rather eat a tasty blob than a dry, yucky madeleine….great post.

Ha ha! I think putting powdered sugar over anything will fit it! – mary

LOL – cute post. They look tasty!

What a fun post.:) It is good to have a sense of humor when things don’t go completely our way! I bet they were tasty with the chocolate and powdered sugar on them.

Thanks for the laugh. I needed it. School is open and I was counting on a snow day.
I am glad you enjoyed eating these and yes, you probably do need a new pan. I just got one, on Amazon and used it for the first time. It worked beautifully. The madelines fell out, almost lost them….

Ha ha! I wasn’t totally thrilled with how mine looked, but after reading Mary’s post (and then Kayte’s that she linked to), I ordered new madeleine pans. You are to be commended for trying everything to make them beauty queens.

Lol. =) I hope you find a new pan that you like. And I’m glad that at least they tasted good.

Ha, always so creative! I did not know there were such varying degrees of madeleine pans. I bought mine (nonstick) at Sur La Table a couple years ago and think they’re pretty good. I’m glad the “blobs” tasted good, ‘cos that’s what’s important.
Thanks for baking with me this week!

Bummer they didn’t work to what you expected, they still look yummy though! 😉
