…is to make bread. (Well, maybe cake…) And I have been making a lot of bread lately. For the guys I usually just make a plain white bread, but I like “think outside” the bread box and try different types.

    Cheddar Cheese Bread

      1 cup water or milk
      1 Tbl butter
      1 Tbl sugar
      1/2 tsp salt
      3 cups bread flour
      2 1/2 tsp yeast

Place in bread machine in order specified by your machine. You can add the cheese now – 3/4 cup cheddar – or use the Fruit/Nut cycle and add the cheese at the beep. At the beep will give you more visible cheese.

I usually use just the dough cycle and then bake free form on a stone, but either way is good.

It is a good basic cheese bread – great for grilled sandwiches because it brings out the flavor of the cheese more. I would actually add MORE cheese next time as the taste was rather subtle.

Recipe came from, “The Bread Machine Cookbook” by Donna Rathmell German (1991)

But I also made Hamburger Buns this week using the basic white bread recipe.DSC03959 I have posted the White Bread Recipe before – HERE – and it made some good buns. Sixteen to be exact.

Remove the dough from the machine and allow to rest a few minutes.
Knead gently into a cylinder and cut into 16 even portions.
Gently roll each portion into a ball and press into a flattened round shape on the counter using your hand in a rotating motion. (At this point you could brush the tops with an egg wash.)
Place on baking stone and bake at 400 for 20 minutes or until internal temp is 190.
Remove them from the baking sheet to cool on a wire rack.
