This month marks the 2nd anniversary of Tuesdays with Dorie. Two years ago Laurie of Slush said:

After receiving Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan for Christmas, I thought I would try and make a recipe a week till Im through the book. Yes, I know, there are over 300 recipes. It will take me 5 years or more. ha! Nothing like setting a goal for myself, right? (I am horrible at follow through. AWFUL! Who knows how long this will last. Anyone wanna join me, keep me going in this task?? I’d welcome a buddy!)

Who knew Laurie would end up with more than 300 Buddies baking with her over the last two years. And how she would impact the lives of so many of us – most of whom have never met — well, physically anyway. As of this month the members of TWD have baked more than 100 of the recipes in Baking From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan(You can read about it at her site.)

To celebrate the two year anniversary Laurie served as host and gave us the choice of two possibles – Tarte Tatin or Cocoa-Buttermilk Birthday Cake. Like Laurie said – what is a party without cake.

I knew we couldn’t (and shouldn’t) have a whole cake, or any part of a cake, in the house (especially since I joined Recipe Girl in the 10 in 10 Challenge. (But that’s another story….) so I chose the Tarte Tatin (pg 312/313)

I only made about 1/3 of the recipe and didn’t really measure anything. I sliced the unpeeled, cored Braeburn apples with a mandolin and caramelized them in a 6″ cast iron skillet.

After it cooled I used some left over Sweet Tart Dough for the ‘undercrust’ and baked it.

Oh, and I added just a few Fresh Cranberries for contrast. (It’s not my fault that I can no longer JUST leave a recipe alone – blame my Twitter buddies).

THE BITE I had was quite tasty. The Braeburns are sweet/tart so the tartness offset the sweetness of the caramelization. As did the cranberries. I liked THE BITE I had (10 in 10). The Guys had some TWD vanilla ice cream with theirs. One liked, one didn’t (doesn’t care for tart apples). I will make this again. Thanks, Laurie, for giving us a choice.

Please stop by the other Bakers’ Sites and see what they made for the 2nd Anniversary.
