….biscuits. OR so I thought until I tried Dorie’s Basic Biscuits. I have used her recipe lots of times and it never fails me. And Dorie is NOT a southern girl. Stylish! Sophisticated! Well-Traveled! Great cook/baker! BUT NOT SOUTHERN!!!!! She should NOT be able to make biscuits THIS good!!!

Dorie’s Basic Biscuits
Not only basic, but perfect. I made 1/2 the recipe and ended up with 3 3″ biscuits and 3 bite sized. Delicious with some Pear Raspberry Preserves and butter. The only thing I did different was to melt some butter in the bottom of the cake pan I was using which gave them a crispy buttery bottom.
And they rise so beautifully.
I have made these often just plain, but I have also made them with garlic and cheddar cheese, or just cheese. Also with some chives mixed in. Always good! Always perfect!
Thanks to Jennifer of Cooking for Comfort for finally bringing these little gems to the attention of the TWD Bakers. She will have the recipe on her blog. Great choice.

I halved the recipe too. These were really good. I agree that us southern gals surely can make the best biscuits! Surely??? It looks like in our group there are lots of good biscuit bakers. 🙂 Yours look delicious. Now I am sitting here all alone with some great biscuits and I want sausage gravy to go with them, but cannot justify making that just for myself.

I haven’t tried any of Dorie’s recipes thus far, but this inspires me. I think tea biscuits have to be my first recipe to try!

Those look great, Margaret! I haven’t made mine yet, but the beauty of biscuits is that they’re so quick to make. =)

Love that trick with the butter in the pan for the crispy, buttery bottom. I need to try that next time! Dorie’s recipe is great, it works even for biscuit novices like me 🙂

Wow – look at those high-rise biscuits! I feel like a cheater with this recipe too, since I’m not southern but they always turn out great.

Wow, these are beautiful biscuits – I covet the garlic and cheddar cheese version.

I want to try some with sharp cheddar and chives. Delicious I’m sure. I also like the idea of melting a little butter in the pan. I love buttery bottoms!
