Okay. I give. UNCLE!!! How could I skip TWD and not feel guilty. Yes, I cannot tell a lie. I read A thru’ M on the TWD list and decided I just had to try this. What is THIS!!! Bread Pudding. I love Bread Pudding. It is usually the dessert I choose when we go out. Gooey with lots of spice and a caramel or whiskey sauce. I CANNOT pass it up. PERIOD!!! Unless they have Cheese Cake, and then I have to get both. I am a Greedy Girl. I wasn’t going to make Lauren’s of Upper East Side Pick of 4 Star Chocolate Bread Pudding. I was packing up Hubs and The Hunk for a trip and I simply did not have time. But after so many reviews – good and bad — I felt left out. So here goes…..
I started out by making Challah. I love making this and it so easy. I used the same recipe I had used before. Cooled. Tore off enough pieces to make the pudding I followed the recipe to the ‘T’, but cut it down to 1/3 recipe, used two whole eggs and Mexican Chocolate which has cinnamon. Well, almost to a ‘T’. It made 3 basic ramekins and four mini ramekins. These are sooo cute. I found them at Pottery Barn and had to have them.
I tried the pudding as is with nothing added. MEH!! I tried the pudding with a little powdered sugar MEH!! I tried it with a little sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. MEH!!
That took care of three of the minis which hold about 3 bites each.
Now, I have one itty bitty mini left and three regulars.
I had added a little white chocolate and may make a little white chocolate ganache. But I have to admit, I really don’t care for this bread pudding. I will stick with my gooey, cinnamony, whiskey sauced bread pudding. Sorry, Dorie.

I’m sorry that you didn’t like this but it’s definitely a different sort of bread pudding. I like the traditional type too but this chocolate goodness was just fine with me (I think that all of the butter in the croissants gave mine a lift though). I love that you added the white chocolate chips to your puddings. And, how cool is it that you made your own challah for this? I think it’s pretty darn cool.

Too bad it didn’t work out for you! At least you tried it.

yeah, you got it done! the opinions on this one were all over the place, too bad you didn’t love it since you are already a bread pudding fan. i’ve been known to get two desserts too if key lime pie is competing with something else on the menu. 🙂

Oh, THAT’S a disappointment! Especially for a bread pudding lover… but that may be the problem. This isn’t a traditional bp. I had a similar problem with the chocolate gingerbread. I love the regular stuff too much. Although I did like this, I must say I prefer a whisky/creamy type also, and that’s what I will make the next time bread pudding is calling my name.
As for the question you asked on my blog, I really can’t give an answer which chocolate bread pudding I prefer because I haven’t had the family version in eons. I’d better make some since that’s a natural question!

I love the little ramekins! Well, you tried it – better things to come next week, I am sure. 🙂

You really made an effort by trying it with different things sprinkled on top. I guess this recipe just wasn’t meant to be. After all this bread pudding talk, I’m craving a traditional one now!

Glad you got a chance to make it. We can’t like everything we bake. Sounds like you tried everything to make it yummy. Maybe we’ll like next week’s recipe better. We can hope.

At least you tried! I wasn’t fond of mine either. I sent the hubs to work with mine the next day.

Sorry this one didn’t do it for you! I love your ramekins!

Oh, it sucks to go to all the trouble of making a recipe and then not liking it! The Mexican chocolate variation sounds great, though.

Sounds good, although I agree with you that your cinnamony, whiskey sauced bread pudding sounds amazing!

Impressive that you made your own challah for this. I like the sound of the caramel or whiskey sauce – you’ll have to share these with us!

AH! Yes! She got to make it! cool!
But I’m sorry you end up not liking it so much! It looks pretty darn good from here, anyways!

I agree with you that bread pudding is better without chocolate. Bittersweet chocolate has such a srong flavor it overpowers the pudding. I love your ramekins.

Sounds like we have the same taste in bread pudding 🙂
Well, at least you tried. There’s always next week.

Sorry you weren’t a fan, but at least you have awesome little ramekins! Love those!
