Cookies!! Cookies!! I love MAKING cookies, although they are not my favorite dessert. Simple cookies are best. Chocolate Chip. PB. Snickerdoodles. I like simple cookies. Unfortunately, these were NOT simple cookies. For me there were entirely too many ‘things’ in the cookies. Dorie did say they were OVERLOADED with fruits and nuts. And they were.
-
Chockablock Cookies.
Nuts! Chocolate Chips! Coconut! Dried fruit! To me it was more like a Fruit Cake Cookie. And since I don’t really LIKE fruit cake, these were not on my fave list.
I didn’t want to buy a lot of dried fruit or raisins, so I bought a bag of Mango Trail Mix. It had cranberries, dried pineapple, mango, as well as walnuts and yogurt raisins. (No, Nancy, that is NOT white chocolate!!) It was SO much easier than buying and measuring out a whole bunch of dried fruit.
Even though these were not my favorites both the Guys liked them, so they will disappear in a couple of days.
This week’s pick was made by Mary of Popsicles and Sandy Feet. — Don’t you love that name?? — And you can find the recipe on her blog or you could just, finally, buy Dorie’s Baking From my Home to Yours. You won’t be sorry.
Don’t forget to go by and check out everybody’s cookies.

I’m sorry that these weren’t your favorite cookies. I was really nervous about these cookies and how they’d taste but I ended up enjoying them. The trail mix you used sounds so tasty! I’ll have to look for it in the store. Lucky you to have the guys around to appreciate these cookies and polish them off!

Trail mix sounds like a great addition to these! they look delicious.

Well, if the guys liked them, they are a hit, right? We cook/bake a lot of the time for the guys…at least it always seems like that is what you and I are doing most of the time. It’s funny you said that about Nancy and the white chocolate as that was my first thought when I saw that photo…white chocolate, Nancy won’t eat that one! LOL. Your cookies look great, and it was fun to hear about your subs…sound good to me, esp. those yogurt raisins!

Ha! You totally called me out on that one. The first thing I thought when I saw the picture was, “oh, she added white chocolate. ewww.” But now I know the truth and wish I could taste one of your cookies – I loved these and they’re open to infinite variation.

Thanks so much for baking along with me this week! I love the yogurt raisin idea too.

I bet that mango trail mix was incredible! I’d liove to try that!! Yum!

These weren’t a big hit at my house, but I think it had to do with the fruit I chose – mango. The chocolate was really good though. š

Sorry you didn’t like these at all! The mango trail mix sounds like it would have definitely made me happy. Better luck next time!

It’s nice someone liked them at your house! I loved this recipe!

Sorry these weren’t to your liking. I did like them, but will still probably simplify them a bit the next time I make them. BTW, green neckties? Lost me on that one. =) (The red bow just looked nice with the cookies. I need more props, too.)

Clever idea to use an all in one mix. I had lots of odds and sods in the pantry so I just used them up.

I think these cookies sound really good. I like a lot of goodies in cookies. I like that it is healthy goodies too! Buying the trail mix was a great idea. I think I will try that. Thanks!

Too bad you didn’t like them with the dried fruit!! I didn’t like the oats, but then again I have never been very fond of oats. Do you reckon I could make these without oats?
April 28, 2010 at 7:05 PM
These were like fruit cake cookies! Great idea to add some trail mix – the yogurt raisins sound good!
April 29, 2010 at 10:55 AM
Sorry that you didn’t like the cookies, but I still think that yours looks perfect! š
April 29, 2010 at 1:23 PM
Sorry these weren’t your favorite, but good for you for trying them! They look yummy.
April 29, 2010 at 1:44 PM
These weren’t my favorite either, but I still liked them. I think they grew on me as time went on. The trail mix sounds like a good idea–at least your guys liked them!

I thought to myself these are trail-mix cookies as I was making them. Yours really were. Great idea.
April 30, 2010 at 1:04 AM
Great idea to use trail mix in your cookies! These weren’t my favourite cookies either, although I did like them. If I made them again I would probably simplify them a little. I prefer plain cookies too š

smart move on buying the trail mix. I hate measuring (mostly buying) all the stuff too!
I chucked when i read “fruit cake cookies” it’s totally true!
May 2, 2010 at 12:14 PM
That mix sounds yummy! These have not disappeared as fast as most cookies do around here. Okay, but definitely not a favorite for me either.

Fun post Margaret – you always make me laugh! Cookies aren’t one of my favorite desserts either, so I included mix-ins I didn’t like so I wouldn’t be tempted to eat these mindlessly. Your additions sound good but I definitely understand why they weren’t a favorite.
